Paragliding

2,500m altitude

Acrobatic paragliding at the Verbier Air Show turns the sky above Verbier into a stage for aerial performance. Pilots launch from the slopes above Medran at around 2,500 metres and perform spectacular manoeuvres directly above the audience: dynamic spirals, SAT rotations, infinity tumbling, loops and freestyle combinations that seem to defy gravity.

Unlike recreational paragliding, acrobatic flying requires intense physical and mental preparation. Pilots use specialised wings — smaller and more responsive — built to withstand the forces generated by acrobatic manoeuvres. Each sequence is precisely choreographed, and pilots use thermals and valley breezes to regain altitude between tricks, maintaining a continuous flow of action.

Acrobatic paragliding demonstrations take place on Saturday 11 April and Sunday 12 April between 11 AM and 3 PM. The manoeuvres are performed directly above the Medran area, which means spectators can enjoy the show with the naked eye — no binoculars needed. It is the most visually accessible discipline for those watching from the ground.

Acrobatic paragliding is also the discipline most influenced by weather conditions. Pilots need calm air and good visibility to execute their figures safely. In the event of strong winds or turbulence, demonstrations may be adjusted or postponed to a later window during the same day.
