Base Jumping

Base jumping at the Verbier Air Show is one of the event's most breathtaking moments. Athletes step off the Mont Gele cable car at 3,023 metres above sea level, making it the highest organised base jump in Switzerland. The setting is extraordinary: snow-capped peaks of the Valais Alps stretch in every direction, and the cable car suspended above the void provides a launch point unlike any other in the world.

The jumpers experience a few intense seconds of freefall before deploying their parachutes. At this altitude, conditions are demanding — wind speed, temperature and visibility must all be carefully assessed before every jump. Athletes wear specialised suits and rapid-deployment parachutes designed for the minimal margin of error that mountain base jumping demands. Each jump is a precise balance of technical skill and risk management.

Among the confirmed athletes is Geraldine Fasnacht, a Swiss base jumping and wingsuit pioneer based in Verbier. She was the first woman to complete a wingsuit flight from the summit of the Matterhorn and is one of the most recognised figures in Alpine extreme sports. Additional world-class base jumpers will join the event to deliver unforgettable jumps for the audience.

Base jumps are scheduled for Saturday 11 April between 10 AM and 3 PM from Mont Gele. Spectators can watch from the Medran slopes or the terrace of the altitude restaurant. Binoculars are recommended for the best viewing experience. All jumps are weather-dependent and may be adjusted if conditions change.
