Aerobatics

2,800m altitude

Aerobatics is the flagship discipline of any airshow, and at the Verbier Air Show it takes on a unique dimension. Aerobatic aircraft perform in the skies above Verbier at roughly 2,800 metres, framed by the peaks of the Valais Alps. Pilots execute loops, barrel rolls, spins, hammerhead turns and precision figures with surgical accuracy, just a few hundred metres above the spectators.

Flying an aerobatic aircraft at altitude in a mountain environment adds a layer of challenge not found at traditional lowland airshows. The thinner air at 2,800 metres reduces both lift and engine thrust, forcing pilots to adjust every manoeuvre. The surrounding terrain also imposes trajectory constraints that must be mastered perfectly. It is this combination of technical skill and natural setting that makes aerobatics at the Verbier Air Show truly exceptional.

Aerobatic demonstrations are scheduled for Saturday 11 April between 10 AM and 6 PM in the Medran zone. Aircraft make multiple passes throughout the day, interspersed with the other disciplines on the programme. The roar of engines echoing between the mountains and the coloured smoke trails painted across the Alpine sky create an atmosphere unlike any other airshow.

Aerobatic performances are visible from anywhere in the Medran area. Spectators are encouraged to position themselves on the terraces and slopes for the best viewing angles. Displays are subject to visibility conditions — in the event of fog or low cloud, demonstrations may be adjusted.
